Mumbai: The residents of the famous Dadar Parsi Colony have demanded that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) use M40 grade concrete for construction of footpath in their locality. Residents accompanied by former area corporator and Yuva Sena general secretary Ameya Ghole submitted a memorandum to this effect to Additional Municipal Commissioner (BMC), Dr. Abhijit Bangar on December 10.

The delegation demanded that strict adherence should be kept to meeting timelines during road construction to minimize inconvenience to the public and residents at large. “Ensuring a clear and safe pathway for elderly citizens and young ones during excavation work. Instead of Stamp Concrete, the BMC should consider using Brooming, as was previously done, for better durability and compatibility with the area”, said Ghole in a statement issued here.

Ghole said that currently the footpaths are being constructed using M20 grade concrete which is not sufficient considering the heavy pedestrian usage and the need for a long-lasting solution. He added that increasing the strength would ensure durability and reduce the cost of frequent repairs. Ghole further stated that this would also ensure that it would result in better load bearing capacity, withstand higher footfalls and weather conditions.

He pointed out that higher-grade concrete has been used recently in the construction of the footpath for the stretch of road between Wadala station to Ruia Naka and has proved to be more durable and resilient.
