London : The 2025 Marx Orations were held at Highgate Cemetery in London on Sunday, marking the 142nd death anniversary of Karl Marx. The event, jointly organized by the Communist Party of Britain (CPB) and the Marx Memorial Library (MML), saw speeches by Cuban Ambassador to the UK, Ismara Vargas Walter, and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and AIKS National President, Dr. Ashok Dhawale.
Professor Mary Davis, Secretary of the Marx Memorial Library, chaired the programme, which was attended by CPB General Secretary Robert Griffiths, MML Chairman Alex Gordon, Treasurer Harsev Bains, and several other prominent left-wing leaders. Over 1,000 people, including members of the CPI(M)-affiliated Association of Indian Communists (AIC), the Indian Workers Association (IWA), and cultural organizations Kairali and Kranthi, marched to the Marx Memorial and listened to the speeches.
Diplomatic representatives from socialist and left-led countries, along with members of various Communist and Workers’ Parties worldwide, laid wreaths at Marx’s grave. The event concluded with the collective singing of The Internationale.
The orations coincided with the 20th conference of the AIC, which took place in London on March 15-16, attended by Dr. Ashok Dhawale.
