New Delhi: Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera on Wednesday strongly criticized the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) charge sheet against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case, calling it a deliberate move to target the Gandhi family and the Congress party. He claimed that the charge sheet was part of the government’s broader strategy to harass the Gandhis.

The ED filed its first charge sheet in the over Rs 600 crore National Herald case on Tuesday, naming Sonia Gandhi as accused number 1 and Rahul Gandhi as accused number 2 in connection with alleged money laundering activities.

Khera expressed strong objections to the money laundering charges, asserting that the case was being politicized in a bid to weaken both the Gandhi family and the Congress party. He remarked, “Before Independence, the National Herald, Congress party, and the Gandhi family were targeted by the Britishers for raising the voice of the people, and in 2025, they are being targeted by the BJP government.”

The Congress spokesperson stressed that the party’s longstanding fight for the people had made it a prime target for the current government, and he condemned the move as a clear attempt to suppress opposition voices.
