The Telangana Assembly Elections concluded with a decisive victory for the Congress party, as the counting trends indicated a lead in 64 seats, surpassing the majority mark and positioning the party to form the next government. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which had held power in the state for a decade under the leadership of K Chandrashekar Rao, conceded defeat following the counting trends.
K T Rama Rao (KTR), the son of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, gracefully acknowledged the election results, stating, “We will take this in our stride as a learning and will bounce back. Congratulations to Congress party on winning the mandate. Wishing you Good Luck.” KTR, contesting from the Sircilla constituency, has been leading in the polls. In the previous 2018 election, he secured the seat with a substantial margin of over 89,000 votes.
The Election Commission of India’s latest data reveals the Congress leading with a clear edge, signifying the end of BRS’s ten-year rule in the state. K Chandrashekar Rao, known as KCR, had been eyeing a hat-trick victory after securing a sweeping win in 2018 with 88 seats. However, the spirited campaign led by Revanth Reddy from the Congress sought to upend the incumbent chief minister’s hold on power.
The Telangana win serves as a consolation for the Congress, which faced setbacks in other regions, particularly the Hindi heartland. The party is poised to lose power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, while in Madhya Pradesh, it faces an impending defeat with the BJP surging ahead, leading in over 160 out of 230 seats.
This victory for the Congress in Telangana marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, heralding the end of BRS’s tenure and setting the stage for a new era under Congress leadership.
