Jaipur: In a swift and decisive response to a horrific accident that claimed three lives in Jaipur’s Nahargarh area, the Jaipur City District Congress Committee has expelled Usman Khan, the man behind the wheel of the speeding SUV. The incident, which has left the city shaken, occurred late on Sunday when Khan, reportedly heavily intoxicated, drove recklessly through crowded streets, mowing down pedestrians and crashing into vehicles—even those parked outside a local police station.
Khan, a member of the Congress district executive committee, was immediately removed from his position after his party affiliation sparked widespread outrage. “We condemn the tragic incident and have taken strict action. Usman Khan has been expelled from the Jaipur District Congress Committee with immediate effect,” a party spokesperson confirmed.
The fatal incident took place as the SUV sped from MI Road to the narrow bylanes under Nahargarh police station’s jurisdiction. Three people died, and at least eight others were seriously injured. The victims include Virendra Singh (48), Mamta Kanwar (50), and Monesh Soni (28). Those injured—ranging in age from teenagers to the elderly—were rushed to hospitals and are currently undergoing treatment.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of “utter panic” as the SUV plowed through the crowd. “It felt like a war zone. People were screaming, and others were trying to pull the injured off the street,” said a local shopkeeper. The chaos quickly escalated, with angry residents staging protests, blocking roads, and burning tyres to demand justice.
BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya strongly condemned the act, labeling it deliberate. “The accused, Usman Hasan, has done this intentionally. He is a Congress functionary and must be hanged. I trust our CM Bhajanlal Sharma to ensure justice. Bulldozers should be brought in against those responsible,” Acharya said. He further alleged that efforts were being made by Congress MLA Amin Kagzi to shield Khan—a charge the Congress party has not officially responded to.
Police confirmed that Khan owns a factory in Vishwakarma Industrial Area and that his medical report revealed high alcohol levels at the time of the crash. An FIR has been filed based on a complaint from the father of deceased victim Mamta Kanwar. Security remains tight in Nahargarh, with forces from four police stations deployed to maintain law and order amid continued public unrest.
