In a powerful and emotional address via social media, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reaffirmed her commitment to return to her country and seek justice for the killings of Awami League members. Currently in India after being ousted by a widespread uprising, Hasina addressed grieving families of party workers with her camera off, sending a defiant message to the interim government in Dhaka.

“Allah kept me alive for a reason… the day will come,” Hasina said, asserting that those responsible for the killings and persecution of her party members “will be held accountable.” Her remarks come at a time of heightened political tension, as the Bangladeshi interim government pursues her extradition and accuses her of destabilizing the nation through “inflammatory remarks”.

The Awami League leader painted a grim picture of the current situation in Bangladesh. According to NDTV, she accused the interim regime, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, of turning the country from a beacon of development into a “terrorist nation.” “Awami League, cops, lawyers, journalists, artists — everyone is being targeted,” she claimed.

Hasina also condemned the alleged media gag under the current regime. “Rapes, murders, dacoities — nothing can be reported. And if it is, the TV channel or newspaper is targeted,” she said, hinting at a widespread clampdown on press freedom.

The former PM also launched a scathing attack on Muhammad Yunus, describing him as “someone who never loved the people,” accusing him of charging high interest on microloans and using the money for a lavish lifestyle abroad. “Then developed a lust for power that is burning Bangladesh now,” she added.

Reflecting on her personal losses, Hasina revisited the darkest chapter of her life — the 1975 assassination of her father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding President of Bangladesh, and other family members. “I lost my father, mother, brother — everyone in one day… Those who committed these crimes must be punished. This is my pledge,” she said, her voice cracking with emotion.

In response to concerns from supporters about her safety, Hasina reassured them, saying, “I am alive, son.” When one supporter expressed hope she would soon return to power, Hasina replied, “He will. That’s why Allah has kept me alive. I am coming.”

Meanwhile, the interim government in Dhaka has asked India to curb Hasina’s political messaging, citing concerns that her statements could incite unrest and destabilize the country.
