Mumbai – The BJP-led MahaYuti government serves industrialists and contractors while neglecting farmers, accused Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Harshavardhan Sapkal. The recent suicide of young farmer Kailas Nagare from Shivni Armal, Deulgaon Raja taluka, Buldhana district, is a direct result of the government’s failure, he said, calling it a “government sacrifice.”

Nagare, a state-awarded young farmer, consumed poison on Holi after months of waiting for irrigation water from the Khadakpurna Dam’s left canal. Despite a seven-day hunger strike in December and promises from officials, no action was taken. Before his death, he wrote a three-page note detailing farmers’ struggles.

Speaking at his funeral, Sapkal said, “Kailas Nagare was a progressive farmer whom I admired. I once told him I would send my son to learn from him. It is heartbreaking that someone I considered a role model had to take such a tragic step.”

He further criticised the government, stating, “They dream of a trillion-dollar economy but can’t provide water to farmers. Instead of addressing real issues, they focus on Hindu-Muslim debates and Aurangzeb. This government is insensitive, arrogant, and more ruthless than Aurangzeb.”

Sapkal demanded strict action against the officials responsible, financial aid for Nagare’s family, and immediate steps to prevent further farmer suicides in Maharashtra.
