Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a major step towards strengthening the state’s agrarian economy with the launch of the ‘Mukhyamantri Krishak Samriddhi Yojana’, aimed at facilitating easy and low-interest credit to small and marginal farmers through the cooperative banking network.
The decision came during a high-level review meeting of the Cooperation Department, where the Chief Minister underscored the need to modernize cooperative banks and increase their lending capacity, while also ensuring that the benefits of institutional credit reach the most vulnerable sections of the farming community.
“We must empower our small and marginal farmers by making credit more accessible and affordable. The cooperative sector must undergo comprehensive reforms to keep pace with modern banking standards,” CM Yogi said, directing officials to prioritize technological upgrades and streamline loan distribution.
Since 2017, cooperative banks in Uttar Pradesh have disbursed over ₹23,000 crore in agricultural loans, significantly improving credit access in rural areas. However, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the system further.
In line with the reforms, CM Yogi has also pushed for private investment in storage infrastructure to reduce post-harvest losses and improve farmers’ returns. He also advocated for faster recruitment in the cooperative sector through IBPS-based selection, ensuring skilled human resources in these institutions.
Officials have been asked to create a time-bound action plan for implementing these directives, with a focus on beneficiary outreach, technology-driven monitoring, and institutional accountability.
