Mumbai: Panic gripped Mumbai late Sunday night after an unidentified man made a threatening call to the police helpline Dial 112, warning that “Mumbai will be destroyed with bombs” and claiming that suspicious individuals had already entered the city.

The caller, who identified himself as Rajiv Singh, alleged he had overheard a conversation near the JJ Marg area involving a person speaking about a planned bombing and people linked to the plot. Taking no chances, the city’s security agencies were put on high alert and immediate verification of the claims began.

Authorities swiftly launched a probe, deploying security personnel and initiating checks at vulnerable locations. However, after a thorough preliminary investigation, the threat was found to be a hoax.

A police officer familiar with the matter confirmed, “The call was found to be baseless and made with an intent to spread fear. We have registered a case against the caller under relevant sections for issuing a false bomb threat and causing public panic.”

Legal action has been initiated against Rajiv Singh, who now faces charges under stringent provisions of the law aimed at preventing misuse of emergency services and maintaining public order.
