Centre on Alert as COVID-19 Cases Rise to 5,755; Kerala Worst Hit, Maharashtra Records Most Deaths

New Delhi: India has reported a total of 5,755 active COVID-19 cases as of Saturday, according to the Union Health Ministry, prompting the central government to instruct all states and union territories to ensure preparedness in terms of oxygen supply, isolation beds, ventilators, and essential medicines.

Kerala remains the worst-affected state, with 1,915 active cases, including 127 new cases added since Friday. Delhi has recorded 892 active cases, followed by Maharashtra with 681. Other states like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal have also crossed the 300-case mark.

On the brighter side, Himachal Pradesh and Tripura currently have zero active cases, as per Saturday’s health data.

Since January this year, 5,484 patients have been discharged, reflecting a significant recovery rate. However, four new deaths were reported across the country on Friday, raising the total COVID-related fatalities to 59 in 2024.

Maharashtra has recorded the highest death toll with 18 fatalities, 17 of whom had pre-existing comorbidities. Kerala follows with 12 COVID-related deaths.
