BSF makes people in border areas aware of Centres SEHAT Scheme

 87th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) organised community outreach programme to make the border people aware about Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-JAY) SEHAT Scheme.

Srinagar: A special programme was organized by the 87 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) at Handwara to apprise the border people about the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana (PMAB-JAY) Social Endeavour for Health and Telemedicine (SEHAT) Scheme launched by Govt of India on December 26, 2020 for the people of the union territory Jammu & Kashmir. 

The community outreach programme was organized as a special drive in border area of Melyal to enable the poor and weaker sections of the society and vulnerable population residing in remote border areas so that they come to know about the PMAB-JAY SEHAT Scheme and register themselves under the scheme to avail the benefits. 

It was on the request of the 87th Battalion of the BSF a team of Medical Officers and health workers also from District Hospital, Kupwara also participated in the programme to brief the border people about the scheme in their native language making it easy for them to understand. Sanjay Sharma, Commandant 87 Battalion of the BSF Handwara inaugurated the programme and assured the border people of all the available assistance from BSF for their well-being.

BSF has been organizing such programmes in Border areas under the Civic Action Programme for the development of border people. The medical team comprising nine medical staff headed by Dr Shabbir, District Nursing Officer (DNO) had come well prepared to brief the people and assist them in taking the benefits of AB-JAY SEHAT Scheme. 

Dr Shabbir addressed the gathering and elaborated the provisions and benefits and also told the people how to get registered under the Scheme. He further conveyed the decision of the Government to convert the local Hospital into a Wellness Centre where new infrastructures will be developed and latest equipment will be provided for implementation of AB-JAY SEHAT Scheme.

 The wellness centre will have yoga experts also to impart yoga training to the people for their good health. The people were found enthusiastic to know about it in detail and exhibited thankfulness to the team for their efforts. The team of medical staff also talked to the people in different small groups to make them understand well.  It was followed by a free Ayush Medical Camp organised by 87 Bn BSF during which a medical team of 87 Bn BSF and District Hospital, Kupwara carried out medical check-up of needy people and gave them medicines. 

A number of Border people including 300 men, 175 women and 100 children availed the benefit of free medical Camp. The 87 Bn will keep on organising such Community Outreach Programme (COP) in other parts of remote Border in future also. The border people were very much happy and praised the initiative of BSF.
