Pune: A weekend outing turned tragic on Sunday when an old bridge spanning the Indrayani River near Talegaon Dabhade in Pune’s Maval region collapsed, plunging several people into the water. The structure, situated in Kundmala—a location frequently visited by tourists—gave way while dozens of visitors were on or near it.
Authorities fear that around 25 to 30 individuals may have fallen into the river when the bridge suddenly crumbled. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site, and recovery efforts have been underway since. As of now, two fatalities have been confirmed.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured support for the affected families. He announced a financial aid package of ₹5 lakh for the next of kin of those who lost their lives. In addition, the state government has pledged to cover the medical expenses of those injured in the collapse.
“The state stands firmly with the victims and their families in this difficult time,” the Chief Minister’s Office stated.
