Mumbai: The online education mode being taken up by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) school teachers has gained a lot of momentum. The online education being conducted on WhatsApp, zoom cloud and Google class by BMC, teachers are getting a very good response from the students. So far, more than 2 lakh students are studying online.

According to BMC, more than 21,000 teachers have already been given special training on online education. In addition, 40 YouTube channels have already been launched for 4 language mediums.

In order to enable the students of BMC schools to take advantage of online education more effectively, 10 YouTube channels have already been launched for the students of 1st to 10th standard. Of these, 10 channels are mainly available in four languages viz., Marathi, Hindi, Urdu and English; this includes a total of 40 YouTube channels. This channel is also getting encouraging responses from the students.

After lockdown, the parents and students were worried about how to study further. The schools are still closed. Meanwhile, the state government ordered all schools to provide online education for the students studying in class from three to tenth standard.

Due to the number of increasing cases of Corona, Schools are closed since March. In such a situation, BMC started teaching students online from June 15.
“In view of the current situation, to teach our students even we opted for online classes out of  2,96,0000 students from class III to class X, 2,22,000 students are availing online education so far”, said Mahesh Palkar, BMC Education Officer.

Further, Palkar said that the students are being reached through various apps on WhatsApp, Zoom cloud and various other apps. We are getting very good responses. Educational projects and study materials are being sent to students through WhatsApp. Students are also given the opportunity to ask their questions.

Training of teachers is also very important for imparting online education to students. In such a situation, BMC has trained 10,000 teachers from BMC schools and 10,000 teachers from aided and unaided schools to take online school.

Mahesh Palkar said that no decision has been taken yet on re opening of the schools. The opening of school will be decided whether the area in which Corona cases will be reduced or no cases are reported.

Mahesh Palkar said that we have also formed a group on Telegram, on which the record of daily activities done by the teachers is uploaded.
