Delhi: Senior Congress leader and MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Tuesday welcomed the Delhi court’s decision to refuse cognisance of the Enforcement Directorate’s chargesheet in the National Herald money laundering case, calling it a decisive moment that exposes the weakness of the allegations.

Reacting strongly to the ruling, Singhvi said the case had been unnecessarily escalated despite lacking any legal substance. He noted that the court’s refusal to even take cognisance highlights the absence of basic elements required to establish a money laundering offence.

The Congress MP, who has been closely involved in the legal battle, argued that the prosecution failed to demonstrate any financial wrongdoing. According to him, there was no transfer of funds, no movement of property, and no financial trail that could justify the invocation of money laundering laws.

Singhvi described the case as legally unsustainable from the beginning and claimed it was driven more by intent than evidence. He asserted that the court’s order confirms what the Congress has consistently maintained — that the case was built on assumptions rather than facts.

The ruling has come as a major relief to Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, who were named in the ED’s chargesheet. The party has repeatedly alleged that investigative agencies were being misused to target political opponents.
