New Delhi – NCP (Sharad Pawar) MP Bajrang Sonwane on Tuesday raised concerns in Lok Sabha over the delay in Panchayat elections in Maharashtra, questioning the government on how Panchayati Raj institutions can be strengthened without holding elections for the past three years.

Sonwane demanded a response from the government, stressing that the prolonged delay in elections was undermining the democratic process at the grassroots level. He asked the government to clarify its plan of action to resolve the issue and ensure timely elections for local bodies.

Further, in a supplementary question, Sonwane praised the effective participation of women in Panchayati Raj institutions and inquired whether the government had any special initiatives to enhance women’s representation in local governance.

His remarks come amid growing concerns over the lack of elected representation in local bodies, which play a crucial role in rural governance and development. The government’s response to this issue is now eagerly awaited.
