Badrinath: A devastating avalanche hit Uttarakhand’s Badrinath and surrounding areas on Friday, leaving 47 workers trapped under the snow while 10 have been successfully rescued so far.
The trapped workers were reportedly employed by a contractor working for the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) near Mana village, beyond Badrinath. The avalanche was triggered by heavy snowfall, with reports indicating that 57 workers were present at the site at the time of the disaster. Some managed to escape, while rescue teams are racing against time to save those still buried under the snow.
Rescue operations are in full swing, with teams from the administration, BRO, ITBP, and Garhwal Scouts deployed to the site. Local residents are also assisting in the efforts.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep concern over the incident and prayed for the safety of the trapped workers. Taking to X, he stated, “Sad news was received about many workers being buried under an avalanche during the construction work being carried out by BRO near Mana village in Chamoli district. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by ITBP, BRO, and other rescue teams. I pray to Lord Badri Vishal for the safety of all the labour brothers.”
