Delhi Assembly Leader of Opposition Atishi on Friday strongly criticized the suspension of 21 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, calling it a severe injustice to the opposition and a threat to democratic values.

In a letter to Speaker Vijender Gupta, Atishi expressed deep anguish, stating, “The biggest strength of democracy is its fairness and equality. But whatever happened in the Delhi Assembly in the past few days is not only an injustice to the opposition MLAs but also a severe blow to democratic values,” ANI quoted her as saying.

Atishi alleged that while AAP MLAs were suspended for chanting “Jai Bhim” during the Lieutenant Governor’s address on February 25, no action was taken against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators who raised slogans of “Modi-Modi” in the House.

“It is very unfortunate that no action was taken against any MLA of the ruling party, but 21 MLAs of the opposition were suspended from the House for three days,” she said, calling the move an “insult” to both the MLAs and the people’s mandate.
