New Delhi: A heated war of words erupted in Delhi’s political landscape on Saturday as Chief Minister Atishi launched a sharp critique of BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri. The BJP has fielded Bidhuri as its candidate for the Kalkaji assembly constituency, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle against Atishi in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections.

Atishi, who will contest from Kalkaji, pointed out that Bidhuri, a two-time MP from South Delhi, was denied a ticket for last year’s parliamentary elections. “Ramesh Bidhuri had been an MP from South Delhi for 10 years. His party did not consider him worthy of giving him an MP ticket based on his work. When his party does not trust Ramesh Bidhuri’s work, how will the people of the Kalkaji assembly constituency trust him?” Atishi remarked during a public address.

Ramesh Bidhuri’s exclusion from the South Delhi parliamentary ticket last year had raised eyebrows, with BJP opting for Kamaljeet Sehrawat as his replacement. However, BJP’s decision to field him in Kalkaji has drawn mixed reactions, further fueling the political slugfest.

Bidhuri hit back at Atishi, accusing her and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of governance failures. “I thank the BJP leadership for showing trust in me to reclaim the Kalkaji assembly seat. Delhi is suffering because of Arvind Kejriwal. The people of Kalkaji have also faced ‘aapda’ under CM Atishi,” Bidhuri retorted, using the Hindi word for “disaster” in a play on AAP’s acronym.

The Kalkaji constituency, a stronghold for AAP in recent years, has now turned into a high-voltage battleground. Political observers view the BJP’s choice of Bidhuri as a strategic move to challenge AAP’s dominance.
