Patna: Janata Dal (United) leader and former MLA Anant Singh stirred a political debate after candidly admitting in an interview with Dainik Bhaskar that he was uneducated but had still managed to win elections multiple times. Singh, known for his straightforward style, said that while no one hires an uneducated person, politics allows such individuals to succeed through public support.

When asked about his educational qualifications, Singh replied, “Hum school kaha gaye hai? School jate toh naukri nahi karte?” (“I have not gone to school. If I had gone to school, I would have been doing a job.”)

Responding to a follow-up question about whether uneducated people become MLAs, Singh said, “No one would employ an uneducated person, but an uneducated MLA can get elected. I have won five or six times despite being uneducated.”

The JD(U) strongman is set to contest from Mokama assembly constituency in Patna district, replacing his wife and sitting MLA Neelam Devi. The constituency will go to the polls in the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections on November 6.

Earlier this week, Singh reaffirmed his loyalty to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, saying he would step down if Kumar ceased to lead the state. “Nitish Kumar brought me into politics. If he is not there, I will also not remain in politics. He trusted me and gave me a chance. If he ceases to be Chief Minister, I won’t sit in the Assembly even as an MLA,” he told a local news channel.
