New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing the “Jhuggi Basti Pradhan Sammelan” at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, launched a scathing attack on AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Shah referred to Kejriwal as not only an “Aapda” (disaster) for Delhi but also for his own party, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing him of being the “number one corrupt leader in the country.”
Shah criticized Kejriwal’s governance, claiming that the AAP government had failed to deliver on its promises, especially to slum dwellers. “The BJP has listened to the pain, inconvenience, and anger of the slum dwellers against the broken promises. Our manifesto will not be like ‘AAP-Da.’ It is the guarantee of Prime Minister Modi,” Shah said.
Setting the tone for the BJP’s campaign ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, Shah asserted that February 5 would mark the end of AAP’s governance in Delhi. “The people who once led an anti-corruption movement have now broken all records of corruption. AAP has become an ‘Aapda’ for Delhi, and Arvind Kejriwal is an ‘Aapda’ for his own party,” he added.
Earlier, Shah took to X (formerly Twitter) to further criticize Kejriwal, accusing him of living a luxurious life in a “sheesh mahal” (glass palace) funded by taxpayers, while slum dwellers continue to suffer. He praised the Modi government for working towards improving the lives of the poor, including providing them with pucca houses and other basic amenities.
Shah expressed confidence that slum dwellers would “declare an end to the ‘Thug Raj’ of Arvind Kejriwal” in the upcoming elections, signaling BJP’s commitment to resolving the grievances of Delhi’s underprivileged communities.
