Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav asserted on Friday that he has not received an invitation for the consecration ceremony of Lord Ram Lalla at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya scheduled for January 22. Speaking at an event in the party’s Lucknow office, Yadav revealed that he learned about an alleged invitation sent through a courier but hasn’t received it yet.
Challenging those who claimed to have sent the invitation, Yadav called for the courier receipt to track its delivery. He emphasized that the issue is not about personal insult but concerns the name of Lord Ram.
Taking a swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Yadav accused the saffron party of fostering societal division. He asserted that the path chosen by the BJP lacks tolerance and universal acceptance. As the event coincided with Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary, Yadav urged following the path shown by the iconic spiritual leader.
Earlier in the week, VHP chief Alok Kumar claimed to have sent the invitation to Yadav, stating, “Invitation has been sent to him…let’s see if Lord Ram calls him.”
Yadav had previously stated that he accepts invitations only from those he knows, and if he receives an invitation, he would attend the ceremony. Amid ongoing preparations for the consecration event, tensions rise over the invitation issue, highlighting the political and religious dimensions surrounding the grand ceremony in Ayodhya.
