Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), named Atal Setu, making it the longest sea bridge in India. The monumental 21.8 km-long six-lane bridge, constructed at a cost of ₹18,000 crore, has been dedicated to the late Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The engineering marvel utilized a staggering 177,903 metric tonnes of steel, equivalent to the weight of 500 Boeing airplanes and 17 times that of the Eiffel Tower. Atal Setu spans from Sewri in Mumbai to Nhava Sheva in Uran taluka, Raigad district.

The inauguration of Atal Setu marks a significant milestone in India’s infrastructure development. The bridge aims to drastically reduce travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from 2 hours to a mere 20 minutes. This improvement is expected to foster economic growth in Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas while alleviating long-standing traffic congestion issues.

Authorities believe that the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link will play a pivotal role in boosting regional development, providing a vital link between two crucial parts of the metropolitan area. The inauguration ceremony was a momentous occasion, celebrating not only the completion of a remarkable infrastructure project but also honoring the legacy of a respected political leader.
