Delhi: A serious controversy has erupted at Delhi airport after a passenger accused an Air India Express pilot of physically assaulting him during a security check-in dispute, triggering public outrage and an official response from the airline.

The incident allegedly occurred on December 19 at Terminal 1, where a passenger travelling with his family claimed he was attacked after questioning a pilot who attempted to bypass the security queue. The complainant, Ankit Dewan, was flying with his wife, seven-year-old daughter, and four-month-old infant when the confrontation took place.

According to Dewan, airport staff had guided his family to a priority security lane due to the presence of a stroller. He alleged that several airline personnel were using the same lane, prompting him to raise an objection. The situation reportedly escalated when an Air India Express pilot intervened, leading to a heated verbal exchange that allegedly turned violent.

Dewan claimed he was verbally abused and physically assaulted in front of his children, resulting in visible injuries. Images shared online showed blood on his face and clothing, intensifying public reaction and raising serious questions about passenger safety inside airport premises.

The passenger further alleged that he was pressured to sign a statement agreeing not to pursue legal action, with the threat of missing his flight and suffering financial losses if he refused. He later appealed to the Delhi Police through social media, questioning the handling of the incident and the preservation of CCTV evidence.

Responding to the allegations, Air India Express issued a strong statement condemning the reported behaviour. The airline confirmed that a show-cause notice has been issued to the pilot involved and that he has been removed from duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation. The airline clarified that the individual was not on duty and was travelling as a passenger on another airline at the time of the incident.

Reaffirming its commitment to professional conduct, Air India Express stated that it maintains zero tolerance for misconduct and will take appropriate disciplinary action based on the findings of the inquiry.
