After Maratha community quota protests, its turn of Dhangar community to demand quota

The government had just made an announcement of Rs 1,000 crore for the Dhangar community and the provision was mentioned in the budget. Even after, the community have not got any benefit yet, said Dr Vikas Mahatme, MP (Rajya Sabha)

Bhiwandi: After the quota agitation of Maratha community, now Dhangar Samaj has also started statewide agitation for Schedule Tribe (ST) category reservation. Dhangar community is also preparing to take to the streets for the implementation of ST reservation.

Leaders of the Dhangar community who held a meeting earlier decided on statewide agitation from September for reservation quota for the Dhangar Samaj. The Dhangar community leaders had written several letters and submitted memorandum to the administration across the state of Maharashtra. 

The Dhangar Samaj has listed the following demands – there should be a mega recruitment drive for the community and be included under ST reservation, caste certificates of students should be verified, Ahilya Devi Holkar and Yashwantrao Holkar history should be made in the history syllabus.

Rajya Sabha MP, Padmashree Dr Vikas Mahatme, president of Dhangar Samaj Sangharsh Samiti Maharashtra is spearheading the Dhangar Samaj agitation over the reservation. 

Dr Mahatme will be participating in the “Dhol Wajwa” protest on Friday before the Thane collector office. He has urged people to kindly follow the social distancing norms and use the mask and sanitizers which is necessary to be safe. 

Dr Mahatme while speaking thenews21, “Every political party and politicians should be headed the Dhangar protest from behind and support the people, which led the protest will be effective and adjustable. However, no political leader and the party will put a face in the protest”.  

Dr Mahatme said that we have been demanding reservation (ST) for several years. But the politician did not discuss ST reservation yet. They did not issue any statement over the reservation yet. The government had just made an announcement of 1000 crore for the Dhangar community and the provision was mentioned in the budget. Even after that the community has not got any benefit yet.-By Narendra Gupta
