New Delhi: AAP MP Sanjay Singh targeted the BJP in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, alleging that communal violence cases have increased by 94% between 2019 and 2024 due to “incendiary and hate speeches” by ruling party leaders. He said that while the world is focusing on progress and technology, BJP leaders are “digging graves and looking for temples beneath mosques,” referring to the Nagpur violence over the 18th-century grave of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and ongoing temple-mosque disputes.
Singh claimed that those in power are making statements about damaging government-protected Mughal-era sites and accused BJP leaders of fueling communal tensions. He stated that infiltration from Bangladesh continues despite the BJP being in power for 11 years, with illegal immigrants entering through West Bengal, Tripura, and Assam before settling in Delhi.
Attacking the BJP’s “double-engine government” narrative, Singh said that while crime is a state subject, if a state is BJP-ruled, the party must take full responsibility for law and order. He cited National Crime Record Bureau data, alleging that criminal activities have risen in states governed by the BJP. Comparing crime rates, he claimed that BJP-ruled Haryana reported more incidents than Punjab, despite having a larger population.
Providing statistics, Singh said that in Uttar Pradesh, 6,57,925 cases were registered in 2020, 6,80,082 in 2021, and 7,53,675 in 2022, showing an increasing trend. He further alleged that Delhi has become a hub for criminal activities and listed rising murder cases in BJP-ruled cities such as Ahmedabad, Delhi, Jaipur, Surat, and Kanpur. In contrast, he pointed out that crime had declined in Kochi and Kolkata, which are governed by non-BJP parties. Singh concluded by stating that the data proves the failure of the BJP’s “double-engine government” in controlling crime.
