New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in strengthening national security, citing a significant reduction in terror incidents and a zero-tolerance approach towards crime and terrorism under the BJP-led government.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during a discussion on the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Shah emphasized that Modi’s government has implemented long-overdue changes to tackle inter-state and cross-border crimes such as narcotics, cybercrime, organized crime gangs, and hawala networks. He highlighted that many crimes originate from outside the country, making structural changes in the MHA essential.

Shah said that under Modi’s leadership, India has seen major security reforms, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that the abrogation of Article 370 fulfilled the vision of ‘One Nation, One Constitution, One Flag’ and led to significant improvements in the region. He noted a 70 percent reduction in terror-related deaths, cinema halls running in the evenings, a successful G20 meeting in Kashmir, and the resumption of Muharram processions.

He added that from 2019 to 2024, 40,000 government jobs were created in Jammu and Kashmir, 1.51 lakh self-employment opportunities were generated, and ₹12,000 crore industrial investment was brought to the region. He also stated that MoUs worth ₹1.1 lakh crore have been signed, further boosting economic development.

Shah reiterated that terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and left-wing extremism had been major obstacles to India’s progress, with 92,000 lives lost. He asserted that the Modi government’s policies have drastically reduced terror activities.
