New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politicizing the recent bomb threats targeting schools in Delhi. Singh’s remarks came after BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed that a student arrested for issuing the threats was linked to an NGO that supports a political party.
In a statement, Singh criticized the BJP for turning a serious safety issue into a political tool. “You (BJP) are politicizing the issue of school children getting threats. The first threat was made in May 2024, and after almost nine months, the Delhi Police gave no statement. But now, 15 days before the elections, BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi is holding a press conference and narrating fabricated stories about NGOs. There was no investigation for 10 months, but now they are coming up with all these stories,” Singh said, accusing the BJP of trying to manipulate the situation for electoral gains.
The controversy began when Sudhanshu Trivedi, during a press conference, claimed that bomb threats sent to schools in Delhi were the work of a juvenile who was allegedly linked to NGOs involved in political activities. He further insinuated that the NGOs had connections to AAP, citing the involvement of individuals who allegedly supported Afzal Guru’s clemency petition.
“There were several bomb threat calls and emails received in schools across Delhi, which caused panic. The investigation led to the arrest of a juvenile, and it was revealed that his family had ties to NGOs involved in political protests, including those against Afzal Guru’s hanging. AAP has kept the file closed for months. Is there a connection between AAP and these NGOs?” Trivedi questioned.
Trivedi also raised questions about Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the party’s alleged links with these NGOs, asking for clarification on whether AAP was involved in the matter. He urged Kejriwal to explain the party’s association with these organizations, especially given the controversial allegations surrounding the involvement of juveniles in the incidents.
