NYKS Jammu and NDA organize a webinar on ‘Catch the rain, where it falls when it falls’

Jammu:  An insightful webinar titled “Catch the Rain, where it falls, when it falls” was organized by the Nations Development Association (NDA) in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Jammu under the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Nisar Ahmed Butt, Deputy Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra NYK, Jammu said that rainwater harvesting needs to be inculcated into the day-to-day habits of our everyday life to arrest the falling groundwater tables. 

Sushil Singh Charak said that National Water Mission’s (NWM) campaign “Catch the Rain” with the tagline “Catch the rain, where it falls, when it falls” is to nudge the states and stakeholders to create appropriate Rain Water Harvesting Structures (RWHS) suitable to the climatic conditions and sub-soil strata before monsoon.

Under this campaign, drives are taken to make check dams, water harvesting pits, rooftop RWHS etc; removal of encroachments and desilting of water tanks to increase their storage capacity; removal of obstructions in the channels which bring water to the water tanks from the catchment areas etc; repairs to step-wells and using defunct bore-wells and unused wells to put water back to aquifers etc are to be taken up with the active participation of people.

Ministry of Jal Shakti is taking up a nation-wide campaign “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain” (JSA – CTR) focusing on saving and conserving rainwater with the theme “Catch the rain, where it falls, when it falls” from March 22 to November 30 in the pre-monsoon and monsoon periods of 2021, covering both urban and rural areas of all the districts in the country.

Engineer. Surinder Devgowda former Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Department Government of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) said that National Water Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti launched a campaign “Catch the Rain” with the tagline “Catch the rain, where it falls, when it falls” in 2020 to nudge the states and all stakeholders to create Rain Water Harvesting Structures (RWHS) suitable to the climatic conditions and sub-soil strata, with people’s active participation.

As a preparatory step for the “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain” campaign in 2021, a massive awareness drive was launched on December 21, 2020 in collaboration with the “Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan” (NYKS) involving Youth Clubs in 623 districts across the country including Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Bunty Kumar, Shallu Kumar, Tarun Dutt, Vishal Sharma, Priyanka Sharma, Priya, Tanu Kumar, Mamta Khajuria, Sahil Sharma and Gifty were also present on the occasion.
