Mumbai: Clearing the deck for the long pending demand of opening up of temples and places of worship in the state, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray today said that all the religious places will be opened from November 16.
All the religious places of different faiths were shut for the people after the lockdown triggered due to Covid-19 outbreak was imposed in March this year.
The opening up of religious places in the state will commensurate with the festival of ‘Deepawali Padwa’, Thackeray said.
The Chief Minister said even though the festival of lights-Diwali has begun but one should be mindful about Covid-19 pandemic.
He said although the situation is under control but still one cannot remain complacent when it comes to Covid-19.
He said because of the discipline shown by the people in the state, the situation did not go out of control in Maharashtra as compared to other states.
“There has always been blessings of God and saints on Maharashtra”, he said.
As part of taking precautions, he said various festivals like Holi, Ganeshotsav, Navratri, and pilgrim of Lord Vitthal to temple town Pandharpur did not take place with full vigour. He said people from other communities too showed similar discipline by celebrating Eid and the annual Bandra fair in a simple manner.
Thackeray said all the Covid-19 protocols will have to be strictly adhered to and people will have to avoid crowding at religious places.
The CM said, wearing a face mask will remain mandatory while visiting the religious places.
