Mumbai: Players from Mumbai and Mumbai Suburban made an impressive start to their campaign in the Yonex Sunrise State Under-19 Badminton Selection Tournament organised by the Greater Mumbai Badminton Association (GMBA), promoted by Badminton Gurukul and hosted by Willingdon Sports Club.
In the boys’ singles category, Jayden Noronha of Mumbai Suburban outplayed Thane’s Hardik Motwani 15-8, 15-8 to advance comfortably.
Another Mumbai Suburban player, Gowtham Hari, registered a dominant 15-5, 15-4 victory over Amravati’s Parth Tayade.
Greater Mumbai’s Harshit Mahimkar also progressed with ease after defeating Ahilyanagar’s Mithilesh Pawar 15-6, 15-5.
In the boys’ doubles Round of 32, the pair of Sairaj Nayse from Nagpur and Satya Chauhan from Mumbai Suburban defeated Apurv Davadate of Thane and Tanishq Kenjale of Pune 17-15, 16-14 in a closely fought contest.
Other doubles matches also witnessed competitive performances as players from across Maharashtra battled for a place in the later rounds of the prestigious state tournament.
