A political confrontation intensified on Monday after several opposition leaders sharply criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his recent appeal urging citizens to conserve fuel, limit unnecessary spending and adopt austerity measures amid growing global uncertainty linked to the Iran-US conflict.

She argued that citizens were already dealing with inflation and economic pressure and should not be asked to compensate for what she termed weak governance and international strategy.
According to Chaturvedi, the economic consequences of geopolitical tensions should be handled through policy intervention rather than public austerity appeals.

During a recent public address, Prime Minister Modi had appealed to citizens to voluntarily reduce fuel usage, prefer public transport, avoid unnecessary foreign travel and support locally manufactured products.
