Srinagar: In a daring, swift and meticulously coordinated rescue operation, the Indian Army’s Chinar Warriors, in close coordination with the Jammu & Kashmir Police, District Administration Baramulla and the Gulmarg Development Authority, successfully rescued 24 tourists stranded at Sunshine Peak in Gulmarg, located at an altitude of nearly 14,000 feet.
The tourists were stranded after a technical malfunction developed in a civil helicopter that had transported them to the peak. The situation turned critical as weather conditions rapidly deteriorated, with dense cloud cover and hazardous mountainous terrain posing major challenges to rescue operations.
The mission was led by Army Aviation pilots and aircrew, who displayed exceptional courage, precision and professionalism while conducting repeated sorties in adverse weather conditions and poor visibility. Despite unpredictable mountain weather, narrow landing zones and snow-covered high-altitude terrain, the rescue teams carried out precision landings and safely evacuated all stranded tourists without any casualties.
The successful operation stands as a testament to the professionalism, operational readiness and seamless coordination between the Indian Army and civil agencies. It also highlights their unwavering commitment to protecting civilian lives even in the most difficult and unforgiving conditions.
