As tensions continue to rise in West Asia, India has stepped up its diplomatic outreach, with S. Jaishankar holding a fresh round of talks with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
This marks the fifth conversation between the two leaders since the conflict began on February 28, underlining the seriousness of the situation and India’s active engagement.
Sharing details on X, Jaishankar said,
“Spoke this evening to FM @araghchi of Iran. Conveyed greetings for Navroz and Eid. Our conversation was on the latest developments regarding the conflict and its implications for the larger region.”
PM Modi Connects With Iran President
Just hours before Jaishankar’s call, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, sending greetings on Eid and Nowruz.
During the conversation, both leaders expressed hope for peace, stability, and prosperity across West Asia amid the ongoing crisis.
Strong Message Against Attacks On Infrastructure
PM Modi issued a strong warning against attacks on critical infrastructure in the conflict-hit region, highlighting their global impact.
He said,
“Condemned attacks on critical infrastructure in the region, which threaten regional stability and disrupt global supply chains.”
The statement reflects India’s concern over the broader economic and security consequences of the conflict.
Focus On Shipping Routes And Global Trade
India also stressed the importance of keeping global trade routes safe, especially as tensions threaten key shipping lanes.
“Reiterated the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and ensuring that shipping lanes remain open and secure,” PM Modi added.
This is crucial as disruptions in West Asia could impact oil supply and international trade.
India Thanks Iran For Protecting Indians
The Prime Minister also appreciated Iran’s role in ensuring the safety of Indian citizens in the country.
“Appreciated Iran’s continued support for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Iran,” he said.
India Steps Up Diplomatic Role
With back-to-back high-level calls, India is clearly positioning itself as a responsible global player pushing for dialogue and stability. As the West Asia conflict continues, New Delhi’s focus remains on peace efforts, economic security, and protection of its citizens abroad.
