Trump Reignites India-Pakistan War Claim: Says ‘Five Jets Downed’, Credits Himself for Peace via Trade Threat

Washington, D.C: In a bold and controversial statement, U.S. President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for defusing the military standoff between India and Pakistan, stating that his intervention helped prevent what could have turned into a full-scale war between the two nuclear powers.

Speaking during a private Republican dinner at the White House, Trump claimed:”Planes were being shot out of the air… four or five. I think five jets were shot down actually. It was getting worse and worse, wasn’t it?”

Although Trump did not clarify whether these jets belonged to India, Pakistan, or both, his emphasis remained on the scale of escalation and how it was “getting bigger and bigger” before the United States stepped in. He added: “India and Pakistan were going at it… and we got it solved through trade. We told them, ‘If you want a trade deal with the U.S., stop the fighting.’”

According to Trump, both countries backed down following his warning that no trade deal would move forward while weapons were flying — a position he now touts as a model for conflict resolution.

“Both are powerful nuclear states. We made it clear — no peace, no trade,” he said.

Trump, known for his unconventional foreign policy style, added that he has prevented more wars in six months than most presidents do in eight years.

“We stopped a lot of wars, serious wars. And I’m proud of that,” he said.

This is not the first time Trump has raised eyebrows with his India-Pakistan conflict claims. Since May 10, he has repeated this narrative on multiple occasions, linking the military de-escalation in South Asia to his diplomatic intervention — often portraying himself as the sole peacemaker.

However, India has firmly denied any U.S. role in ending the confrontation. According to Indian officials, the hostilities that followed Operation Sindoor — a targeted military strike by India in response to the Pahalgam terror attack — were scaled down through direct military-level talks between India and Pakistan.

A senior Indian defence source, speaking off-record, reiterated, “There was no foreign mediation. Ceasefire decisions were mutual and based on ground-level assessments.”
