Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation on Friday, discussing a range of regional and bilateral issues. The leaders exchanged detailed views on the escalating situation in the Middle East, particularly the recent surge of violence in Syria.
Both presidents expressed deep concern over the growing instability in Syria, underscoring the urgent need to stabilise the situation through dialogue and national reconciliation. They stressed the importance of respecting Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, while ensuring the rights of all religious and ethnic communities in the country are protected.
The conversation also covered the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. President Putin reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to pursuing a political and diplomatic resolution and thanked President Erdogan for Türkiye’s continued willingness to host direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul.
On the bilateral front, the two leaders reviewed key aspects of Russia-Türkiye relations. They praised the recent June 27, 2025, session of the Russia-Türkiye Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation, calling it a success that paves the way for stronger economic ties.
The leaders agreed to maintain close contact on all the issues discussed.
