New FASTag Annual Pass Announced for Private Vehicles: Rs 3,000 for 200 Toll Trips Across India — Read to Know More

New Delhi: Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday launched a new FASTag-based Annual Pass aimed at making highway travel easier and more affordable for private vehicle owners in India.

The newly announced scheme allows private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans to purchase an Annual Pass for ₹3,000. This pass will be valid for up to 200 toll trips or one year from the date of activation — whichever comes first. The scheme will officially begin on August 15 and will apply exclusively to National Highways.

Sharing the announcement on X, Gadkari said, “In a transformative step towards hassle-free highway travel, we are introducing a FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at ₹3,000, effective from August 15.”

The pass is directly linked to the existing FASTag system, which uses RFID technology to enable automatic toll payments without stopping. With a single prepaid transaction, vehicle owners can cross 200 toll plazas without repeated payments or delays, especially in regions where toll booths are situated less than 60 km apart.

According to Gadkari, this move aims to address long-standing concerns regarding close-proximity toll plazas, frequent stops, and mounting toll costs. By simplifying the toll process, the government hopes to improve travel efficiency, reduce congestion, and offer substantial savings. On average, the new system reduces toll costs to ₹15 per trip, offering users annual savings of up to ₹7,000.

The FASTag Annual Pass can soon be activated through the Rajmarg Yatra App, NHAI website, and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) portal.

This launch is part of a broader effort to modernize India’s toll infrastructure, including a planned rollout of a hybrid ANPR-FASTag-based barrier-less tolling system. This will use Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras and FASTag scanners to charge vehicles without requiring them to stop.
