110 Indian Students Evacuated from Iran to Arrive in Delhi Tonight; 90 from Kashmir Among Them

New Delhi: A special flight carrying 110 Indian students, who were safely evacuated from Iran via Armenia and Doha, is scheduled to land in New Delhi on Wednesday night around 10:15 PM, officials confirmed.

Among the evacuees, 90 students belong to Jammu and Kashmir, most of them enrolled at Urmia Medical University in Iran. The evacuation was coordinated amid growing safety concerns in parts of Iran, especially Tehran.

According to Nasir Khuhami, president of the J&K Students’ Association, “Ninety students from Kashmir Valley, along with others from different states, which takes the number to 110, have safely crossed into Armenia. Most of them are students of Urmia Medical University.”

The students were first moved from Iran to Armenia, then to Doha, before boarding a flight to Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) earlier assured that the Indian Embassy in Tehran was in continuous contact with the Indian community and had made necessary arrangements to ensure the students’ safety.

“Indian students in Tehran have been moved out of the city for reasons of safety, through arrangements made by the Embassy,” the MEA said in an official statement.

Iran hosts over 4,000 Indian nationals, with nearly half being students, primarily from medical and technical backgrounds.
