Municipal Elections Soon, ‘Swachh Bengaluru’ Helpline Launched: DK Shivakumar Charts City Revamp Plan

Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday laid out a roadmap for upcoming Municipal Corporation elections, promising greater accountability, infrastructure repairs, and an innovative new system to tackle garbage issues across Bengaluru.

Speaking to the media, Shivakumar said, “The Municipal Corporation elections need to be held in the coming days. This is what is being discussed — when the elections should be held. The Municipal Corporation needs to be formed within four months.”

He added that the government is reviewing the number of municipalities to be created, and emphasized the importance of consensus: “We need to talk about how many municipalities should be created. We also need to talk with the opposition leaders. We need to take everyone into confidence. We will speak for everyone…”

In a bid to improve civic infrastructure, Shivakumar unveiled a new citizen-friendly initiative under the ‘Swachh Bengaluru’ campaign.

“We have set up a helpline for collecting garbage under the name of ‘Swachh Bengaluru’. If you take a photo and post it with the address, we will collect the garbage within a week. This is how we will make ‘Swachh Bengaluru’,” he announced.

Apart from solid waste management, the government is also turning its focus to road infrastructure, promising direct financial support to local representatives.

“We will allocate funds to MLAs for closing potholes and repairing roads,” Shivakumar said, highlighting plans to fix Bengaluru’s long-standing urban issues.
