Security forces recover cache of arms and ammunition from forest area in Kupwara district

Srinagar: A cache of arms and ammunition was recovered by security forces from a forest area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, a police spokesperson said on Thursday.

“On 26-06-2024, acting on a specific information/input a search operation was launched by the J&K Police and the Indian Army’s 28/ RR, 47 RR and 162 Bn CRPF in the forest area of Andernard Gagal forest area during search operation arms and ammunition was recovered,” said the spokesperson.

The recovered arms and ammunition, as per the spokesperson included, two AK-47 magazines, one-hundred ninety-nine rounds of AK-47, an RPG Shell, four Chinese hand grenades and four M-17 hand grenades.

“The arms, ammunition was hidden by the unknown terrorists/ OGWs (Over the Ground Workers) for carrying out terrorist activities in the area of Lolab.”

“In this regard, a case FIR No. 37/2024 U/S 7/27 IA Act, 13,18,20,23,39 UA(P) Act has been registered and investigation taken,” said the spokesperson, adding, “this operation has delivered a major blow to the nefarious designs of Pak-based terrorist groups who have always aspired to disturb the peace and tranquillity in Kashmir valley.”
