Abdul Sattar, Maharashtra’s minister for minority affairs, found himself embroiled in controversy after an incident during his birthday celebration at an open-ground event in Sillod, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar district. The highlight of the event was a ‘lavni’ dance performance by renowned dancer Gautami Patil, drawing thousands of spectators.

Trouble brewed when a segment of the audience grew restless due to a delay in Patil’s performance. Enraged by the unrest, Sattar, in a fit of anger, grabbed the microphone and directed the police present at the event to aggressively lathi-charge the restless youth, even ordering them to “break their bones.” His verbal abuse towards the youth and threats to cancel the program escalated the situation.

A video capturing Sattar’s inflammatory remarks swiftly went viral, causing significant embarrassment to his political party, the Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde. This incident followed Sattar’s prior controversial statement regarding Lord Hanuman, which drew criticism from Hindu groups.

Condemnation poured in from various political quarters, with Congress spokesperson Atul Londe criticizing Sattar’s use of abusive language and urging Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to take immediate action by dismissing the minister. Opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar echoed these sentiments, calling out Sattar’s unacceptable behavior.

Sources revealed that CM Shinde expressed his displeasure with Sattar’s actions, cautioning him to exhibit restraint in his speech and conduct. Leaders from within the Shiv Sena, including Ambadas Danve and spokesperson Sanjay Raut, distanced themselves from Sattar’s actions, labeling them as reflective of his personal character rather than the government’s values.

Meanwhile, Gautami Patil, the sought-after ‘lavni’ dancer whose performance drew the massive crowd, stands as a figure of immense popularity in Maharashtra. Her unique dance steps, notably showcased in the song ‘Sarkar tumhi kelay,’ have propelled her to the top echelons of her profession. Hailing from Sinkheda, Dhule district, Patil’s rise to fame over the past five years has been marked by her social media presence and lucrative career, amassing a reported net worth in several crores.

Born into a financially struggling family, Patil’s journey from adversity to success saw her embracing ‘lavni’ dance as her profession, gradually ascending the popularity ladder through performances in Akluj, Pune, and beyond.

The incident at Sattar’s birthday celebration has not only sparked outrage but also cast a shadow on the conduct expected from public figures, amplifying calls for accountability and responsible behavior.
