Nana Patole, Maharashtra Congress chief, debunked claims of Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) demanding 23 Lok Sabha seats, asserting that the seat allocation within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance would pivot on meritocracy. Patole clarified that no such demand had been made by Thackeray himself or other top leaders, emphasizing that the decision would involve a joint discussion among the key figures of Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena.
Addressing recent remarks by Sena (UBT) spokesman Sanjay Raut advocating the claim for 23 seats, Patole highlighted that the seat-sharing process would not engage in a fight over numbers but would prioritize merit-based allocation. He expressed optimism about the MVA securing around 40-41 out of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.
Patole further addressed the potential inclusion of Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi into the MVA, asserting the Congress’s stance on aligning with anti-BJP forces. Contrary to suggestions of opposition to Ambedkar’s entry, Patole clarified that discussions were underway among the parties involved and indicated a positive approach toward finalizing talks in Delhi.
In response to Patole’s statements, Prakash Ambedkar continued to urge the Congress to shed its ‘big brother’ attitude, citing instances from Bihar and suggesting the party contest only five Lok Sabha seats in the state for the greater interest of defeating Modi’s regime.
The unfolding narrative emphasizes the MVA’s commitment to a fair and merit-driven seat-sharing approach while signaling ongoing discussions for coalition expansion with an anti-BJP stance.
