Mini Marathon organised by the Indian Army at Trehgam, Kupwara evokes enthusiastic response

Srinagar: A cold November morning was turned warm with the Josh and exuberance of the youth of Kupwara who whole-heartedly participated in the Trehgam Mini Marathon organised by the Indian Army. The mini marathon held on Friday, saw a healthy participation of 151 boys and 28 girls from Kupwara and Trehgam who ran a distance of 10 Km & 5 Km respectively.

The enthusiasm and fervency of all the participants was on full display as they gave their heart out while completing the route. The run started from Trehgam Sumo Stand, passing through Herri, Batargam, Gushi Bridge and Hanjipora, finally culminating at the Government Boys High School, Kunan. 

Through this event the Indian Army not only harped upon the significance of physical fitness and positive youth engagement but also conveyed a message of empowerment of the young girls of Kupwara. With a special emphasis on Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao, the gathering was apprised about the importance of healthy upbringing of a girl child in the society.

The event concluded with the prize distribution ceremony for the first five boys and girls. Amongst boys, Aslam Ali Dar of Gonipora came fifth, Basit Aziz Tanjoo of Trehgam came fourth, Amir Ahmad Mir of Luderwan won the Bronze medal while Samir Khan of Zarhama bagged the Silver medal.

The Gold Medal was grabbed by Tahir Aziz of Karalpora with a timing of 34 min 52 sec. Amongst girls, Anam Mohammad Pir of Hayan came fifth, Iram Javed Wani of Trehgam stood fourth, Bronze medal was grabbed by Mehvish Hilal of Gulgulosa while Humera Hamid Tanjoo of Trehgam won the Silver Medal. The Golden Girl of Kupwara was Simran Manzoor Shah of Trehgam who completed the 5 Km run with a timing of 27 min 30 sec.

The cheers and chants on culmination of the marathon illustrated the sense of enjoyment and accomplishment amidst the youth and they requested for more such events to be organised for them.
