Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has strongly refuted reports of faecal bacteria contamination in the waters of the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, asserting that the claims are part of a “propaganda” campaign to defame the Maha Kumbh. Addressing the issue, he assured devotees that the sacred waters remain pure and fit for a holy dip.
“This event is not organized by any particular party or government—it belongs to society. The government is merely facilitating it as a service to the devotees. Even as we speak, 56 crore 26 lakh devotees have already taken a holy dip at the Sangam,” Adityanath said, emphasizing the massive scale of participation.
Condolences Over Maha Kumbh Stampede
Regarding the tragic stampede on January 29 and other accidents involving returning pilgrims, Adityanath expressed his condolences. “We stand with the families of those affected. The government will provide all necessary support. However, it is not appropriate to politicize such incidents,” he stated.
In his speech in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Adityanath criticized those spreading negative narratives about the Maha Kumbh, Sanatan Dharma, and the sacred river Ganga. “Baseless allegations and fake videos are an insult to the faith of 56 crore devotees who have participated in the Kumbh,” he said.
Defending the Maha Kumbh’s Sanctity
The Chief Minister reiterated that the event is beyond politics and has been embraced by the global community. “The world has participated in Maha Kumbh and taken it to new heights of success, ignoring all false campaigns. Seven days of this grand spiritual gathering remain, and we will continue to ensure its smooth execution,” he assured.
