A political confrontation erupted in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath strongly criticised the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Opposition over their conduct during proceedings related to the Ayodhya Ram Temple issue. Accusing the Opposition of violating Assembly norms, the Chief Minister described their behaviour as “undemocratic and shameful.”
Yogi Alleges Violation of Assembly Rules
Addressing the issue, Adityanath said the Opposition ignored established legislative procedures by raising a matter that is currently under judicial consideration.”The behaviour of the Samajwadi Party and the Opposition was witnessed by the entire State in the Assembly today. This conduct is not only a contempt of the House but also undemocratic and shameful,” Yogi Adityanath said.
He emphasised that the Assembly functions according to constitutional procedures and long-standing traditions, adding that members are expected to respect these rules during debates.
‘Matter Is Pending Before the Court’
The Chief Minister referred to Rule 59 of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly’s rules of procedure, stating that issues pending before a tribunal or court cannot ordinarily be discussed in the House unless the Speaker grants special permission under exceptional circumstances.”Under Rule 59 of the procedures and conduct of business of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, discussion cannot be held in the House on any issue pending before a tribunal or commission,” he said.
He further noted that the Speaker may allow such a discussion only if it does not affect the ongoing investigation or judicial process.
Business Advisory Committee Assurance Cited
Adityanath also claimed that the Samajwadi Party had earlier assured the Business Advisory Committee that it would submit proper notices before seeking discussions on specific issues. According to him, the Opposition failed to follow that commitment during the Assembly session.
CM Accuses Opposition of Disrespecting House and Judiciary
Taking a sharp swipe at the Opposition, the Chief Minister alleged that the attempt to raise the Ayodhya Ram Temple issue despite its pending legal status amounted to disrespect towards both the Legislature and the judicial process. “The Ayodhya Ram Temple matter is pending in court. Despite understanding the seriousness of the case, they have not only shown contempt for the House but also insulted it, and made a shameful attempt to insult the ongoing court process as well,” Adityanath said.
The remarks have further intensified the political clash between the ruling BJP and the Samajwadi Party during the ongoing Assembly session, with the Ayodhya issue once again becoming the centre of a heated political debate.
