Womens Cricket League started at Baki Aker in Handwara by the Indian Army

Srinagar: In order to encourage the sports culture amongst women in the Kashmir Valley and provide exposure to budding cricketing talents of North Kashmir, a Women’s Cricket League was organised by the Indian Army Camp, Bhagatpura at Bakhiaghar Ground. A total of four teams from Rajwar, Handwara, Kulungam and Langate registered for the Women’s League. 

The event was graced by DDC, Rajwar, Suleiman Mir and local Sarpanch and ward members. 

On the first day, two matches each were played. The first match was played between Handwara Red Wings Club versus Girls Higher Secondary School, Langate.

Batting first Handwara Red Wings were off to an aggressive start and scored 72/4 Runs in 10 Overs. 

GHSS, Langate, while chasing down the target, managed to score 73/5 runs. The Handwara Red Wings won the first match by 19 runs. 

The second match was played between Kulungam Club versus Girls Higher Secondary School, Zachaldor. Batting first at GHSS, Zachaldor scored 56/8 in 10 overs. Kulungam club easily chased the target of 57/4 in 7.3 overs with a stellar performance.

The aim of the tournament is to provide a platform for talented young women cricketers for recognition and exposure to higher levels. The teams highly appreciated the Indian Army for promoting women in the field of sports.
