Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav turned 78 today, and the celebrations reflected both his larger-than-life persona and deep-rooted popularity. From an enormous 78-kg cake cut with a sword to emotional tributes pouring in from family and supporters, the day was filled with fanfare, nostalgia, and party pride.
The heart of the celebrations was the Rabri Devi residence in Patna, where the veteran leader was seen cutting the towering cake in his trademark relaxed style—seated comfortably with both feet up on a table. The symbolic sword-cutting was followed by another cake-cutting ceremony, this time with wife and former CM Rabri Devi by his side.
Outside, RJD supporters thronged the streets with dhols, slogans, and sweets. A specially crafted 78-kg laddu cake was brought in on a rickshaw, as the area transformed into a scene of political festivity and emotional bonding.
Lalu’s children shared heartfelt messages that added a personal touch to the public celebrations. Tej Pratap Yadav, his elder son, posted a photo on X (formerly Twitter) embracing a portrait of his father with a poetic caption: “The darker the darkness, the closer the morning will be.”
Misa Bharti, Lalu’s daughter and Rajya Sabha MP, posted on Facebook calling her father “the Himalayas of courage, the bottomless ocean of justice, and the burning flame of public consciousness.” She added, “If you are there, everything is there!”
Rohini Acharya, the younger daughter, called Lalu “our guide, our strength, our superman,” in her birthday post, adding: “Happy birthday Papa. You are our pride.”
