Mumbai: All political parties have taken a stand that reservation should be given to the Maratha community but the most important issue is that this reservation should survive in court. The government called a special session to give reservation to the Maratha community but the government did not even allow discussion on the bill. The government only presented a monologue and decided to give 10 per cent reservation to the Maratha community in education and employment. Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Nana Patole questioned the government’s decision and said that today’s decision has been taken in haste and whether this reservation will survive in the court is the real question.

Speaking on the issue of reservation, Congress state president Nana Patole said that Manoj Jarange Patil has started a movement for the Maratha community. Even today he is on a hunger strike. The Chief Minister had announced that the demands of Jarange Patil have been accepted. Then why is Jarange Patil still on a fast? The chief minister should explain to the people what he had committed to Jarange Patil. According to the report of the Backward Classes Commission, the government claims that the backwardness of the Maratha community has been proved. But many doubts have been raised on this survey itself. It is amazing that 26 lakh people were surveyed in Mumbai city itself in six days.

The Congress coalition government had given 16 per cent reservation to the Maratha community in 2014, but the Devendra Fadnavis government could not sustain it in court. Fadnavis government convened a session in 2018 and unanimously decided to give 12 per cent reservation, but this reservation didn’t last in the Supreme Court. Now again the decision to give 10 per cent reservation to the Maratha community has been unanimously passed in the legislature. Will the decision taken by the BJP government today survive in the court?, said Nana Patole.
