The political dispute over the Election Commission has taken another turn, with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) seeking support from the Cockroach Janata Party for a joint opposition campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Ganesh Kumar.
CPM General Secretary M.A. Baby has approached the CJP leadership and proposed that the party work with opposition groups to create a common platform over the issue.
The move comes as the CJP’s 48-hour deadline seeking the CEC’s resignation comes to an end. The group is also preparing a series of protests, with demonstrations planned across the country.
The protest campaign is expected to begin in Mumbai before moving to Delhi, where further demonstrations are being planned.
The CJP has not yet taken a final decision on the CPM’s proposal for coordinated action.
