Los Angeles: Wildfires have caused widespread devastation in Los Angeles, California, forcing thousands of residents, including several Hollywood celebrities, to evacuate their homes. The blazes, which have been raging for days, have affected various parts of the city, including the Pacific Palisades and Malibu, leaving a trail of destruction.
The fires began in the Pacific Palisades before spreading towards the Malibu stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway. The inferno has claimed numerous homes, including those of high-profile celebrities such as Billy Crystal, Tom Hanks, Reese Witherspoon, Michael Keaton, Mandy Moore, and Paris Hilton. Hollywood actor Mark Hamill, known for his role in Star Wars, described the fires as the “most horrific fire since ’93.” On social media, Hamill shared that he had evacuated his Malibu home with his wife and their dog.
Many other celebrities have taken to social media to share their experiences. Jamie Lee Curtis, the star of Halloween, confirmed her safety, but revealed the devastation her community was facing. She posted, “My community and possibly my home is on fire. My family is safe. Many of my friends will lose their homes. Many other communities as well.” Oscar-nominated actor James Woods also confirmed on X that he and his family had safely evacuated from the Palisades.
Additionally, songwriter Diane Warren shared that her beach house of nearly 30 years had been damaged in the fire. Billionaire Elon Musk posted a video on X, showing the destruction in the Pacific Palisades, an area known for being home to several wealthy individuals and Hollywood elites.
The Eaton Fire, the most significant blaze currently burning, is wreaking havoc across the Angeles National Forest, Altadena, and Pasadena. At least five people have lost their lives, and many others have been injured. The fire, which started Tuesday evening, has already damaged between 200 and 500 structures. Fire officials from Cal Fire and the Los Angeles County Fire Department have been working tirelessly to control the blaze.
According to the Associated Press, more than 1,000 structures, mostly homes, have been destroyed by the ongoing wildfires, and the damage is expected to worsen. In response, local authorities have urged residents to evacuate areas that are in the path of the flames.
