Bengaluru: Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has launched a sharp attack on the central government and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, questioning recent remarks made in Parliament and raising concerns over selective discussions on national and global issues.
Reacting to the Speaker’s statement, Kharge questioned the basis of the comments and asked what special intelligence the Speaker had access to. He said that if such information exists, it should first be known to the Union Home Minister, who is officially responsible for internal security.
Kharge also pointed out that sensitive global matters, including the Epstein files, are being openly discussed in parliaments across the world. He questioned why similar discussions are being avoided in the Indian Parliament and accused the central leadership of fear and hesitation.
Taking his criticism further, the Karnataka minister asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi was unwilling to allow debates on India’s relations with China, especially after repeated border tensions. According to Kharge, avoiding such discussions weakens democratic accountability and prevents Parliament from performing its core role.
The Congress leader strongly objected to remarks that he said insult women Members of Parliament. Defending women lawmakers, Kharge said there has not been a single instance in parliamentary history where Indian women MPs were involved in violence, misconduct, or any form of inappropriate behaviour.
